Bill Bergen was the essence of the 'dead-ball' era everyday player possessing great fundamentals, good fielding
and no hitting.
Bill played for the lowly but lovable Brooklyn Dodgers and was a standout defensive catcher. With a superb
knack of handling foul balls, Bill also owned a rifle arm that fired the roundball with amazing accuracy to second
base while remaining flat-footed. Bill's defensive wizardry compensated for his offensive shortcomings. His 11-year
lifetime batting average of .170 is the #1 all-time lowest.
