'Batty' was the first Italian-American to gain major league stardom.  In 1908, he hit a grand-slam homerun in the last game of the season that was ruled foul and cost the Pittsburgh Pirates the National League pennant. Sometime after the end of that season, a woman sued the Bucs for being struck by that 'homerun' ball while watching the game from her seat in fair territory.
