Frank is credited for discovering the legendary Hall of Fame pitcher, Christy Mathewson. Bowerman, then a NY Giant, met Mathewson while Christy was under contract with the Cincinnati Reds . After a brief game of catch, Frank, convinced there was future greatness in Mathewson's career, urged the Giants owner to purchase Mathewson's contract and promised to take the young Christy under his wing. The rest is baseball history.
