Known as 'Sleepy Bill' for dozing on the bench, Bill's playing career was distinguished by the amount of times
he was traded (5 teams in 5 years). His lifetime ERA of 3.66 was not distinguished. His post-playing career was
distinguished in one major event that changed the face of baseball. Burns acted as a go-between with gamblers and
Chicago White Sox players that eventually led to the biggest gambling scandal in modern baseball history, the Black
Sox scandal.
