Fred was the star player/manager of the silver era Pittsburgh Pirates, considered one of the greatest teams of that era. Fred's team, led by Hall of Famer, Honus Wagner, won the National League pennant in 1903 and played in the first World Series. Fred managed Pittsburgh for 18 years and was an excellent all-around outfielder. In 1897, Fred hit an incredible .406 BA and came in 2nd to (HOF)Wee Willie Keeler's staggering .432. He was the first National League outfielder to be credited with 4 assists in one game (1 at home, 1 at 3rd, 2 at 2nd). In 1909, Fred led the great 110-42 Pirates to their first World Championship.
