Compared by many to Hall of Famer 2nd baseman Johnny Evers, Larry was the captain of the great Giant teams, managed
by another legendary Hall of Fame member, John McGraw. Winning the Chalmers Award in
1912 (the forerunner of the MVP award), Larry was the first player to hit a homerun out of the historic Old Polo
Grounds. He was the roomate for seven years of another HOF legend, Christy Mathewson.
Larry loved the game and was fiercely loyal to his team as noted by his famous quote, "It's great to be young
and a Giant".
