Ed was a integral part of the pitching staff of the powerhouse Chicago Cubs, a perennial
pennant contender and holder of the all-time winning record of 116-36 in 1906. In 3
consecutive years (1906,07,08), Ed had a combined 60-15 record with winning percentages of
.826, .810 and .774. No other pitcher has been able to match this feat. In 1908, Ed amazed the
baseball world by pitching complete game shutouts in both games of a doubleheader against
the Brooklyn Dodgers. In 1905, Ed pitched a 20 inning game and won 2-1. In 1906, Ed
achieved the #3 all-time record of allowing an average of just 5.33 hits per 9 innings. For all
his amazing achievements, he was overshadowed by another member of this famous pitching
staff, Hall of Famer, 'Three Fingers' Brown. Ed truly deserves recognition for his amazing
career and should be elected to the Hall of Fame.
