As a rookie, Vic won 25 games and was considered the best young pitcher of 1898. The 'Delaware Peach' was acquired by Pittsburgh owner Barney Dreyfuss in one of the biggest deals for its time as three players were traded to acquire the stellar pitcher. Known for his sweeping curveball, he pitched for the world champ 1909 Pirates winning 22 games that year. Willis pitched 50 shutouts in his career and had a lifetime 2.63 ERA.
